The program will be as follows:
NOTE: The cost for this tournament is $150.00 per team registration, along with a koha for marae. All manuhiri will be staying at Hauiti Marae. Koha to be paid to Tolaga Bay Area School please.
Thursday 14th April 2011
4:00pm - Pohiri at Hauiti Marae for manuhiri
- Tea (to be confirmed)
- Debrief with organizers and staff/adults (manuhiri) regarding tournament. Day 1 & day 2
Friday 15th April 2011
7:30am- Breakfast
8:30am- Head off to Tolaga Bay Area School (venue for tournament)

9am- Tournament begins
There is no lunch break (people can graze and snack throughout the day. Stalls are available also.)

Saturday 16th April 2011
7:00am- Breakfast
- Tidy marae and pack gear up
8:00am- Depart for TBAS for finals (playoffs)
- Playoffs begin
- Prize giving
- Karakia whakamutunga
Depart for home (hoki ki te kainga) if you are staying longer you will need to arrange your own accomodation
Rules Ki-o-Rahi ki UAWA National Secondary Schools Tournament
14, 15, 16 April 2011
• must have 8 players playing at all time’s (8 players must consist of 4 male’s and 4 female’s)
• up to 12 players per team (6 male, 6 female)
• 4 x 5min quarters (20 min game’s)
• Rippa also called a tag
• up to 3 players in ‘pawero’, (2 guarding tupu, 1 player at the edge)
• kick starts only when a ‘tupu manawa has been scored’ - try
• only 4 Taniwha players allowed in ‘te roto’, when throwing at the ‘tupu’ there will be a count to keep ball in play
• when kaitiaki have ball they also will be given a count
• you can not run out of the ‘pawero’ with the ‘ki’
• no running across the ‘ara’ at all
• when retrieving the ‘ki’ outside your area both feet must still be planted on the ground
• if you are ripped you have 3 seconds to pass the ball
• if you are double ripped at once by the same player, hand over
• if you are a Kioma player running into ‘te roto’ than back out, you forfeit your points and need to start again
- Rippers must be worn on the side and must not be blocked by your arm’s when playing
• if the ball is touched in flight by opposing team there is a recount
• no moving blocks during the game
• no moving of the pou by players
• the “ki” must touch the pou
• every game played must result in a winner
• in the event of a draw, there will be a “tupu” shoot-out; meaning, 8 players from 1 team will have 8 of their players taking 1 shot each at the “tupu” whilst ONLY 1 “kiatiaki” guarding the “tupu”, teams will then swap over and the team with the most hits wins!, if in the event a draw result’s from this shoot-out a coin toss will decide the winner.
